Anchor University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Bandele, has reiterated that the school management would not rest on its oars until it pilots the institution to attain global excellence among the comity of schools in its cadre.
Bandele made this disclosure during the 8th Matriculation ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session at Ayobo, Lagos State while chatting with journalists in his office at the weekend.
The elated university don, who was full of praises to God for His mercies upon the school since its inception, disclosed that the management was working conscientiously to attain global excellence as mandated by the chancellor of the school, Pastor (Dr.) W.F Kumuyi.
He averred that the path to attain excellence was to ensure that the minimum standard was maintained to be able to compete with the older universities.
According to him, “shooting above minimum is an indication that you are moving towards excellence.”
The administrative head of the university appreciated the giant strides the older universities had made overtime, noting that they had all paid their dues.
He was, however, quick to add that attaining excellence has nothing to do with age.
Bandele explained that Anchor University was on the verge to attain excellence as all the variables are already in place to advance the course to the top of academic proficiency.
“Excellence connotes disciplined lifestyle, moral uprightness, a drug-free campus, students concentrating on their studies; provision of conducive study environment, students excelling in their chosen career, and what have you.
“You will agree with me that all these variables have nothing to do with the age of the school. And by the grace of God, we are not going to compromise on the standard already established as a faith-based school,” he said.
The VC added, “We shall enforce it to the letter to ensure that the school is built on a strong foundation based on the righteousness and fear of God. I can say without any contradiction that Anchor University is a haven for disciplined students,” he assured.
He admonished the matriculants to strive for academic excellence by attending classes, participating actively in discussions, completing assignments on time, studying diligently, and preparing thoroughly for exams.
He equally gave the breakdown of the matriculation of 699 students spreading across several disciplines.
According to him, the Faculty of Natural, Applied and Health Sciences matriculated 397 students; Humanities, Social and Management Sciences, 238; Environment Science, Architecture 15; Faculty of Law, 38, and the Postgraduate School, 11.
