A 30-year old Prophet operating in Ekiti State, Adedayo Oluwaseyidara, was on Friday docked and subsequently detained by a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, for allegedly killing a minor, Emmanuel Adeyemo.
The development was sequel to the granting of an ex-parte application brought before it to remand the Prophet in the Nigerian Correctional Services, Ado Ekiti custody.
In the charge sheet, Prophet Adedayo was on February 12, 2022, in Iyin Ekiti, was suspected to have committed the offense of murder on a 17-year Emmanuel, contrary to and punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Sodiq Adeniyi, requesting for remand order said granting the order will allow the Police to complete their investigations and forward the duplicate case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
In her statement to the Police, the deceased’s mother, Adeyemo Bisola, recalled that the deceased’s younger brother was bedwetting and was taken to the Prophet for prayer and healing.
She said it was during that time that the Prophet told her to bring the deceased after claiming that he was possessed and needed to be cleansed spiritually.
The woman said the Prophet directed her to also bring different types of fruits for appeasement to the gods due to a vision and revelation about him.

The deceased’s mother, “The Prophet prepared the sacrifice and concoction and gave it to the deceased to drink, thereafter, the deceased started complaining of stomach ache and later died”.
In her ruling, Magistrate Franca Olaiya said: ” Prophet Adedayo Oluwaseyidara, is hereby ordered to be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services, Ado Ekiti”.
She also adjourned the case to 10th March 2022 for mention.
