The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 election, Mr Peter Obi, yesterday visited the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom in Delta State, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Orhue 1, Maj-Gen Felix Mujakperuo (retd).

Obi’s visit to the monarch, who is the Chairman of Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, was a sequel to the attendance of a church thanksgiving service organised by the lawmaker representing Okpe, Sapele, and Uvwie federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Ben Etanabene, Esq.

On arrival at the Osubi Airport at about 9:45 am, the former governor of Anambra State proceeded directly to the Corpus Christi Catholic Church located on Jakpa Road in Effurun, Uvwie local government area.

He stayed at the church until the conclusion of the service, accompanied by several party members.

Among those in attendance were the LP state House of Assembly candidates in the last election, Lennox Gold, from the Udu constituency; Israel Amone from Okpe, and Alexander Eyamu, from Ughelli North. The state party chairman, Vincent Okwuokei, also attended the thanksgiving.

During the church service, Obi offered valuable advice to the celebrant, Etanabene, and encouraged him to prioritise serving his constituents.

The presidential candidate also advised the National Assembly members to set an exemplary standard of leadership, emphasising the importance of transcending party politics and treating everyone equally, regardless of their political or religious affiliation.

Following the church service, the group proceeded to the Orodje of Okpe’s palace. In attendance were the high chiefs of the Okpe Kingdom including the Unu-Okpe, Chief Mike Affe.

Obi took the opportunity to commend Orodje for his significant contributions as the Chancellor of the Anambra State University during his tenure as governor.

The Orodje reciprocated the sentiments by speaking highly of his August visitor, offering prayers for his well-being.

The highlight of the event occurred when the Orodje presented a ‘royal fan’ to the LP presidential election flagbearer as a token of appreciation for his honour.
