Falomo Rotary President prioritises maternal, child healthcare, lasting service

By Francis Ajuonuma
The newly inaugurated President of the Rotary Club of Falomo, Lagos, Rotarian Paul Ofienbor, has outlined an agenda focused on maternal and child healthcare, sustainable community development, and impactful humanitarian service, urging members to pursue projects that deliver lasting benefits to society.
Speaking during his inauguration on Thursday, Ofienbor said the club would align its programmes with Rotary International’s theme, “Creating a Lasting Impact,” by strengthening fellowship, expanding membership and implementing sustainable interventions that address critical needs within host communities.
“Our greatest strength lies in working together. When we unite in friendship, service and purpose, we can create lasting change in our communities and across the world,” he said.
The new President identified Maternal and Child Health, one of Rotary International’s Areas of Focus, as a key priority for the year, stressing that every mother deserves access to safe healthcare and that every child should have the opportunity to grow up healthy.
He noted that preventable maternal and child health challenges persist due to inadequate access to quality healthcare, nutrition, immunisation, and health education, adding that the club would partner with relevant stakeholders to improve health outcomes through targeted community projects.
“This year, we are guided by the theme of creating a lasting impact. It calls us not only to serve, but to serve in ways that leave meaningful and sustainable change in the lives of those we touch,” Ofienbor said.
He pledged to lead an inclusive administration where every member would be actively involved in community service, fellowship and humanitarian initiatives, in line with Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.”
Ofienbor also paid tribute to the Immediate Past President, Rotarian Ibrahim Sule, and the outgoing board for their dedication and leadership, saying they had laid a solid foundation for the club’s continued growth and service.
The inauguration was attended by the Immediate Past President, Rotarian Ibrahim Sule; Past President Sandra Ovie; Rotarian Blessing Ofienbor; Rotarian Charles Ozamere; Rotarian Joshua Akpan; other past presidents of the club; and distinguished Rotarians
