Why we’re extending development to rural areas in FCT – Wike

By Ben Adoga, Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has restated the government’s commitment to extending development to the rural areas of the territory.

He disclosed this while inspecting road projects in the Kwali Area Council of the FCT over the weekend.

While inspecting the Yangoji-Sukuku-Ebo Road being handled by Gilmor Engineering Limited, and the Kwali City Road being constructed by another contractor, the Minister stated that extension of development to the rural communities was key in his development programmes.

“We need to give them the infrastructure to enable them to develop. How will the farmers carry their products to the market if there are no roads?” he queried.
“In terms of security, take for example, where we are coming from, just imagine that people were kidnapped, how would security agencies gain access in this kind of topography? So, infrastructure, particularly roads, is key in this kind of community to feel the impact of government. That’s the essence of the renewed hope agenda.”

Wike said the development was not complete if they were centred at the city centre only.
He, however, charged the contractors to speed up the work to meet the deadline.

The Managing Director of Gilmor Engineering Limited, Eli-Goldhar, assured the Minister that the Yangoji-Sukuku-Ebo Road would be delivered before December.
