Explosion: Kano govt cautions residents against fake news, speculations

Residents of Kano state have been urged by the State government to remain calm after Tuesday’s gas explosion in Sabon Gari, Kano.

The state Commissioner for Information, Muhammed Garba made the call in a statement on Tuesday.

The commissioner said the situation has been brought under control, as security agencies had taken over the area to rescue victims and to determine the cause of the explosion.

“The state government will keep the public abreast on any development,” he said.

Garba cautioned residents against fake news and speculations on the incident.

He also debunked claims that the explosion occurred in a school, saying that it happened near an animal feed store opposite the school on Aba Road, Sabon Gari, Kano.

The commissioner said while the cause of the explosion and the damages were yet to be determined, an investigation has commenced.

He, however, urged residents, especially those living in the area of the incident to remain calm, saying that the state government was working to restore normalcy in collaboration with relevant security agencies.

Meanwhile, the Police Command in the state had confirmed the killing of four persons by the explosion.
