By Emmanuel Iriogbe, Abuja

Nasarawa State Government on Tuesday declared that most contractors that had executed various contracts in the state were quacks.

The goverment said that henceforth only registered indigenous contractors with credible records of performance would be awarded contracts by the present administration in the state to ensure quality of work.

Director-General, Nasarawa State Bureau for Public Procurement, Mr. Dominic Bako, disclosed this  Tuesday in Lafia, when fielding questions from Journalists shortly after the flag off of training of 200 Small and Medium Scales Enterprises.

Mr. Bako said the training of the 200 Small and Medium Scales Entrepreneurs was to equip  them with skills to enable them assess contracts between N1m to N20m to stimulate the economy of the state.

” Most of the contractors in the state are quacks. Therefore Governor Abdullahi Sule has directed that we have a comprehensive list of contractors in the state and not the civil servants kind of contractors.”

“We are going to update list of all the contractors in the state and link up with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) with the SMEs we have trained and registered.”

“We are training about 200 SMEs to improve the economy of the state with a multiplier effect having a range of between N1 million to N25 million to be accessed individually as contract sum from the state government
