Youths are getting it wrong by investing in…, Cleric admonishes youths

Mr James Olugbenga of Glory of Christ Church, Ilorin, has admonished youths to shun inordinate crave for material possession, but focus on moral values.

Olugbenga, a Psstor, gave the advice in an interview in Ilorin on Thursday.

He enjoined them to add more value to themselves rather than prioritising materialism.

According to him, many youths are concerned on how to look gorgeous and forget to build their career.

“Youths now rush to buy clothes, shoes, big phones and flashy cars, rather than trying to be creative and learn more to build a better future.

“There is a misconception by the youths that materialism is now a way of life. That mentality must be completely erased. There are more vital and important things to invest on.

“Youths are getting it wrong by investing on material things. There is the need to caution them on the dangers of chasing material wealth.

“Build your career to the utmost best. Learn new things and strive to get better. Invest on your business to grow and not waste money on toys and unnecessary materials,’’ he said.

Olugbenga added that materialism discourage saving habits and should not be embraced by the youths.

He further advised the youths to embrace education and skill acquisition as ways to abolish the spirit of materialism.

The cleric also called for social media campaign against materialism and need for spiritual approach.

“Journalists, religious leaders and NGOs should emphasise against and condemn materialism via their medium and different programmes,’’ he urged.
