The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N40m, including food items, to victims of a tanker explosion in Majiya village of Jigawa State.
A delegation led by the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hajia Fatima Tajudeen Abbass, presented the donation on her behalf at the Government House Dutse.
Handing over the cheque and food items to the wife of the state governor, Hadiza Umar Namadi, the First Lady said she was very concerned about the victims’ plight and assured the state government of continued support and prayers.
After receiving the commiseration and donations from Mrs. Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi assured the delegation that the donations would be judiciously deployed to help the victims.
Appreciating the President for his prompt and fatherly response to the disaster in the state, the governor disclosed that some of the victims are already getting better under medical care
While noting that the tanker explosion was a sad episode for the state, the wife of the governor, who received the items on behalf of the state government, described the First Lady’s visit and donation as a show of motherly love, unity, and solidarity.
The delegation was earlier at the Rasheed Shekoni Federal University Teaching Hospital, Dutse, where some victims are receiving medical attention.
Recall that the tanker fire explosion, which occurred recently in Jigawa state, claimed a total of 181 lives, with another 80 persons said to be in critical condition, with over 200 households affected in the deadly inferno.
