Ifeanyi Ejiofor, counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has accused the United Kingdom of doing little to assist Kanu’s case with the Nigerian government.
Ejiofor made the accusation during an interview with Arise News monitored by THIS NIGERIA on Wednesday.
Kanu, who is facing charges of treasonable felony, is a British passport holder.
He lamented that the British High Commission had not been giving the same energy as when Kanu was first arrested in 2015.
“I can confirm to you today that the British High Commission is not doing much about this case. The first time he was arrested in Lagos, they kept in touch constantly but now, they are not doing anything,” he said.
Ejiofor also accused the Department of State Services of denying Nnamdi Kanu access to his lawyers, medical care.
“The last time we saw Kanu was on the 17th of July, 2021. At that time, he still had injuries on his body sustained from the torture he faced in Kenya and when he was brought to Nigeria. Last week, we made serious efforts to see him but it was not successful.
“The DSS has a clear history of violating court orders. We are waiting to see if they would follow the court order, granting Kanu access to his lawyers and medical attention.

“What is playing out today is a media trial. We need to inform the public of every detail of the proceedings. 80% of uninformed Nigerians already think that Kanu did some unspeakable things because of the way the government keeps portraying him. We will match the government’s energy fire for fire.
“The international community is following this case closely. This is not business as usual where there would be an unfair trial,” he stated.
Ejiofor reiterated his earlier stance that Kanu was abducted in Kenya, not arrested.
“I will say it again that Kanu was not arrested in Kenya. He was abducted and brought to Nigeria. It is a gross violation of international human rights.”
