Massive road construction in FCT will ease food transportation – Wike

By Our Reporter
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has expressed satisfaction that the Renewed Hope Agenda is working in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

Wike who said this on Wednesday when he inspected the Kwaita as well as Yangoni – Sukuk roads, which are under construction, stated that he was overwhelmed by the level of the road and the possibilities of evacuating food stuff from the vast, fertile farm lands to the city market

The minister was also optimistic that with good weather at the moment, the roads would be completed and delivered in December this year.

“What amazes me is the length of these roads, particularly as we have a very positive impact on these communities. When we went to Kwaita, you can see how long the road is. And we are now in Yangoji – Sukuku road.

“I can’t believe what I’ve seen. But I thank almighty God that the renewed hope agenda is alive and working.

“On the performance of the contractors, you know we had heavy rains this year and we gave them December to complete this project. But you can see the level of job they have done.

“This is a good quality job, and this is in the rural area. And I’m very much impressed with all the contractors.”

Impressed by the quality of job and the level of the construction, Wike assured that he was ready to ensure the payment of the contractors handling the roads.

“I’m really impressed, very much impressed. And I’m going to do everything to make sure that funding is not a problem to them. When you see contractors who are committed, you on your own part, as part of government, will also carry out your own obligation by making sure that they are funded in order to complete these roads and make the people happy.”

“I’m sure you can see farms, expanse of land for farming. If government can capitalise on this, we will be talking about food security. So I’m quite impressed, very much impressed.

Wike, however, charged other communities that have not been reached yet to be patient and that if they are not captured yet, with time, other administrations will reach them as government is a continuum.

“Government is a continuum. The ones we can do, we’ll try and complete them. When another government comes, it continues on.

“Government cannot solve all problems at the same time. Even if you are in office for 20 years, there will still be problems. But what is important is that people can see they are making efforts to reduce their burden.

“That’s what is important. So like I said before, all areas in Abuja, be it the city, be it the satellite towns, will all have the impact of this government.”
