There is no time limit to solving insecurity – Femi Adesina

By David Lawani
Femi Adesina, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari has said there is no fixed time for elected leaders to deliver on their mandate.

Adesina, who spoke on Channels TV program,  Politics Today, said it was impossible to accept that President Buhari is not delivering on his promises to Nigerians since he took over power.

According to him: ”People who have been expressing their feelings have the right to it but it doesn’t make them right. Millions of Nigerians still believed President Buhari has done well and it is still doing very well.

”Yes, the party promises that it will secure the country. Listen to the president anytime and he talks about the three priorities for Nigeria. From the first term to the second term, to 10 months, one day to the end of the administration. He said one he will secure the country, two, he will revive the economy which he is doing, and three, he will fight corruption. Those three remain at his topmost priority.

”Now, when you want to assess a government, you do that by what the government promise to do and how far they have done in achieving these promises.

”On security consider the first year of the administration. Was it the same way that it is presented? no! There has been an improvement in the security situation in the country in the first year. The insurgency was the main problem in the country it was said it has been technically degraded.

”Insurgency was the main problem in 2016 but later it was banditry. Then kidnapping and others. It became hydra-headed. And, so you don’t begin to now say the government has failed for a problem that suddenly spirals out of control.

“Security is a challenge. 10 months to 1 day to the end of the administration, anything can still happen. You don’t begin to conclude that it has failed in security when the time is not up yet. For all I know, one, two weeks, 1 month, 2 months based on that it can be done. That is how it should be.

”And, of course, there are successes in different areas. Infrastructure, agriculture, social security, and very many areas. So, you don’t take just one issue and use it to conclude that the government has failed. It is never done. No government in any part of the world can solve all the problems in the country. It has never happened and it will never happen”.
