Senate clears NEDC board chairman, MD’s re-appointments

The Senate has confirmed President Tinubu’s nomination of Gen. Paul Tarfa (retd) from Adamawa State for re-appointment as the Chairman of the North East Development Commission, (NEDC), representing the North East geopolitical zone.

The Red Chamber also approved the reappointment of Mohammed Goni Alkali from Borno State (North East) as the Managing Director of the commission.

It similarly okayed the appointment of Musa Yashi from Bauchi State, as the Executive Director, Humanitarian Affairs.

The new nominees confirmed are Ahmed AbdulSalam Yahaya from Gombe as the Executive Director, Operations, and Dr Abubakar Garba Iliya from Yobe, as the Executive Director, Administration and Finance.

Others are Hon. Gambo Maikomo representing Taraba (North East), Abdullahi Abbas from Kano State (North West), Tsav Stephen Aondoana – Benue (North Central), Chief Mutiu Lawal Are -Lagos (South West), Hon. Samuel Ifeanyi Onuigbo, Abia State (South East) and Frank Achinike Owhor from Rivers (South-South) confirmed as board members of the commission.

The confirmation of the re-appointments and new appointments during plenary on Tuesday was sequel to the consideration and adoption of the report of the Committee of the Whole, chaired by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

President Tinubu had last week Wednesday, asked the Senate to screen for confirmation, of the appointment of the NEDC Board.

Tinubu’s letter was read at plenary by the Senate President.

The President had in said the letter was following section 5 of the North East Development Commission Act 2023.
