Three more opposition Reps join APC, total now 30

By Chukwudi Obasi, Abuja
Three members of the House of Representatives yesterday formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), further boosting the party’s majority in the 10th National Assembly.
The lawmakers are Hon. Oluwole Oke from Osun State, who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Kabiru Hassan Rumrum and Sani Abdullahi, both from Kano State, who dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the APC.
Rumrum had declared his return to the APC at a meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje. At the same time, Oke made his move public in Osun before yesterday’s official announcement.
Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, read their letters of defection during plenary, marking their official alignment with the ruling party.
Their defection brings the number of lawmakers who have changed party affiliation since the inauguration of the 10th Assembly to 30. Of these, 27 have joined the APC from opposition parties, including the PDP, Labour Party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), and NNPP.
