The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami has said that Nigerians without the National Identification Number (NIN) risked 14 years imprisonment.
Pantami made this known during the weekly State House Press Briefing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.
The minister stated further that the imprisonment law is as stipulated by the constitution.
Pantami also disclosed that 51 million National Identity Numbers have been fully enrolled.
“189 million Subscriber Identification Modules have been registered in the country out of which 150 million registrations have been completed.

“It is a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment for any Nigerian to transact business like open a bank account, pay taxes among others without having NIN,” he said.
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos had on Tuesday ordered the extension of the deadline for the National Identity Number (NIN) registration by two months.
