Senator escapes bandits’ attack, 2 police details injured

By Andy Asemota
The senator representing Edo Central, Clifford Ordia, has escaped bandits’ attack which left two of his security details critically injured, his Edo South counterpart, Matthew Urhoghide, has said.

Urhoghide, who confirmed this in the plenary of the Senate on Tuesday, disclosed that the affected police orderlies were undergoing surgical operations following the incident.

His words: “There were two of them in the vehicle; one of them is my brother and fellow senator from my state. He was coming from Edo State yesterday when gunmen attacked them. Two policemen attached to him were the serious situation.”

He lamented that the insecurity in Nigeria was akin to a ritual the nation had talked much about without anything positive happening about it.

To him, the situation is not much about condemning a government or a system but practical steps to be taken to stem the menace.

“If the Western powers have the arsenal to fight these bandits, why can’t invite them? This is nobody in this country that is not worried about insecurity. As a solution, apart from mass recruitment into the armed forces and the police, we should invite those that can help us to fight this warfare. This is the time; nobody should talk about national pride when we don’t a homegrown solution to our problem,” he opined.

The lawmaker also re-echoed the concern of Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, that if nothing could be done about the insecurity situation in the FCT’s contiguous state, satellite towns around Abuja would be under siege and Abuja could be the next target within days.
