Osun Babes FC blames failed style for 0-2 loss to Nasarawa Amazons

Tope Akinbade, Coach of Osun Babes Football Club has blamed his team’s style of football for the 0-2 away loss to Nasarawa Amazons Football Club, in their Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Match day 8 encounter

The encounter played at the Lafia Township stadium, on Wednesday, saw Amarachi Okonkwo open scoring by converting a free kick from outside the 18-yard box, while a simple tap in the 52nd minute sealed the victory for the Amazons.

Akinbade said his team’s  plan to the game had been to force their opponents to play their “tip tap” style of football and then control the momentum of the game, but the Amazons proved too stubborn, went offensive and overwhelmed the Babes.

He explained that the Nasarawa Amazons players were not really better, but they were more determined to win and that affected the style his team had planned to impose on the game to win.

“Our own style of play is ‘tip-tap’ football, but the Nasarawa girls forced my girls to their own pattern. That is why i said they know what they are doing. They know what is at stake. They are determined. That is football,” he said.

Christopher Danjuma, Head Coach of Nasarawa Amazons, in his remarks, said recording a third win on the trot attested  to the fact that his team was now in good form and playing better than at the beginning of the season.

He said the support given by the state government and the club’s supporters during the earlier poor run of form contributed immensely to the recent improved performances by the players.

“We are still a work in progress but Nasarawa Amazons is a team that has tested players and I know, by the grace of God, we will still achieve our goals.

“Also, the way the government has been supporting us, even when we were not doing well, is something that is so commendable. We also thank everybody that understood with us that it is not in our tradition to start badly, but that it can happen in football,” he said.
