A total of 13 Governors elected under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), on Tuesday vowed to dislodge plans by anybody to rig the November 6 governorship election in Anambra state.
Chairman of the PDP National campaign council for the Anambra state governorship election and Abia state Governor Chief Okezie Ikpeazu stated this during the party’s mega rally held in Awka the state capital.
The rally which attracted who is who in the party was to end the party’s campaign for its candidate for the Anambra state governorship election, Chief Valentine Ozigbo.
Ikpeazu who was accompanied by Governors Ifeanyi Okowa and Seyi Makinde of Delta and Oyo states respectively, and, deputy governor of Edo state, Philip Shuibu, declared that PDP during its just-concluded national convention held in Abuja, made a bold statement that it was prepared to “take back” the country’s reins of power from the All Progressives Congress, APC, come 2023 general election.
They expressed optimism that with the popularity of the party in Anambra combined with the quality of the candidate, Chief Ozigbo, PDP would win the governorship election in the state.
He stated that the outcome of the PDP national convention showed “The train has started for the recovery of Nigeria in 2023, and, I am sure that the people of Anambra can’t afford to be in the train.
He charged the people of Anambra” reject those sent to capture Anambra state; nobody can capture Anambra state in Jesus name “.
While calling on the electorate in the state not to be intimidated from going to cast votes during the governorship poll by the massive security deployed to the state, Ikpeazu told the people of the state ” I assure you that PDP Governors can protect votes cast for PDP in the election.
He said, “Our candidate, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo is a humble person; he doesn’t claim to know it all; he is God-fearing, and, a team player. May the fate that befell PDP in Edo state on the day of the election be your (Valentine Ozigbo’s) portion in Jesus name”, Ikpeazu prayed.
He stated that the South East has been in trouble under the current administration, and, had only been surviving by the grace of God, citing that infrastructures in the region, especially roads had been abandoned, and, import and export facilities in the area were in decay.
In their separate speeches, Okowa, Makinde, and, Shuibu charged the people of the state to shun any act of intimidation that might be employed to scare them from coming out to cast votes in the election, but, to troop out en mass, and, vote for PDP, and, its candidate, Ozigbo.
Okowa urged members of the party to forgive any bottled-up anger, but, unite forces and work for the victory of the party.
