A 20-year-old woman, Maryam Ibrahim has allegedly killed her co-wife, Hafsat Ibrahim with a pestle to death in her sleep in Gar, a village in Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi state.
She has been arrested by the police in Bauchi and has confessed to the crime.
This was contained in a press release by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi state command, SP Ahmed Mohammad Wakil on Monday and made available to Journalists in Bauchi. He said the suspect, Maryam Ibrahim of Gar village, Pali ward of Alkaleri LGA was apprehended on 22nd November 2022.
According to the PPRO, the husband of the victim, 40 yr old Ibrahim Sambo of Gar village of Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi state had on the 22nd November 2022 reported the incident at the Maina-Maji Divisional Police Headquarters.
SP Wakil said, Ibrahim Sambo reported that on the same date at about 1200hrs, his second wife Maryam Ibrahim ‘f’ aged 20yrs of the same address used a pestle to hit his first wife Hafsat Ibrahim on the head in her room.
The deceased husband informed police that as a result, the victim sustained a serious degree of injury and was taken to the Primary Healthcare centre in Gar village where she was certified dead by a Medical Doctor.
“On receiving the report, a team of detectives attached to the Command swung into action and arrested the suspect”, the PPRO said.
He noted that during interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime.

He said the suspect equally revealed that “on Tuesday 22nd November 2022 at about 1100hrs the said Hafsat Ibrahim (deceased) sent her son “Abdulaziz Ibrahim ‘m’ aged 5yrs” with a lump of fried meat known as (Tsire) and gave to the suspect “Maryam Ibrahim” after eating the meat, the suspect started feeling abnormal situation led to vomited the meat”.
“Besides, it was a family house, thereafter, the suspect called one Faiza Hamisu ‘f’ of the same address the wife of the suspect’s husband’s younger brother, and told her exactly what happened and the said Faiza told the suspect that probably it was an ulcer and give her ulcer medicine”, the press release explained.
