The National Assembly has announced a one-week extension of its resumption date for plenary sessions.
Lawmakers in the Senate and the House of Representatives will reconvene on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, instead of April 29.
According to a statement signed by Kamoru Ogunlana, Clerk to the National Assembly, the shift will enable lawmakers to participate in the forthcoming Workers’ Day celebrations and attend to pressing matters within their constituencies.
“This extension allows Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members to participate in the Workers’ Day ceremony and attend other engagements in their constituencies,” the statement read in part.
Ogunlana also urged members of both chambers and the general public to note the new date and apologised for any inconvenience the change may cause.
Plenary sessions were earlier suspended to allow legislators to observe their usual legislative recess for Ramadan and Easter.
The extension means more time for community engagement and potential political consultations ahead of the legislative calendar’s next phase.
