President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick has ruled out the appointment of a local coach for the Super Eagles’ top job which is now vacant following the sacking of the Augustine Eguavoen led coaching crew last month.
The NFF terminated the appointment of the entire Super Eagles technical crew of Augustine Eguavoen, Emmanuel Amuneke, Salisu Yusuf and Joseph Yobo following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar made possible by the Black Stars of Ghana.
Following the sudden sack of Eguavoen and his technical crew, most Nigerian football fans have backed the appointment of a competent Nigerian coach to be saddled with the Super Eagles job as they believe that only local coaches can return Nigeria football to its glory years.

Pinnick, while speaking in an interview revealed that the NFF Board has decided to go for a foreigner as the new coach for the Super Eagles within the next 10 days, but did not mention a frontrunner for the vacant job.
“One thing I can guarantee you is we are getting a foreign coach, within the next seven to ten days we’ll announce a foreign coach,” Pinnick said on Brila.
Gernot Rohr remains the last foreign coach to take charge of the Super Eagles having been fired last year in December.

The German tactician was sacked despite qualifying for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals and the final round of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup playoffs.
Rohr was replaced by Jose Peseiro, who was expected to take charge of the team after the 2021 AFCON finals in Cameroon with Eguavoen set to take charge of the team at the continental tournament.
However, the NFF announced that Eguavoen would remain Nigeria’s interim coach after the team was eliminated in the Round of 16 in Cameroon.
This ended the possibility of Portuguese mentor Peseiro taking charge as the next Super Eagles permanent boss.
