Musa canvases results-based budgeting for fiscal transformation, lauds CBN’s global recognition

By Francis Ajuonuma

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, has commended the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) leadership for the unprecedented international credibility garnered through its bold and strategic reform agenda.

The Senator, a delegate representing Nigeria, said this on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington D.C.

Musa praised the successful staging of the ‘Nigeria Investment Agenda’ event at the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York City, which brought together an impressive assembly of global financial leaders, and the high-level investors’ forum held at the prestigious Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington D.C.

He said, “These events represent a remarkable turning point for Nigeria. The strong international turnout is a vote of confidence in the direction the CBN is taking under its current leadership. Their commitment to transparency, monetary stability, and investment-friendly reforms is rebranding Nigeria as a viable destination for capital.”

The Senator emphasised that Nigeria must urgently adopt a more modern and effective fiscal framework to fully reap the benefits of these reforms.

“We must transition from the outdated envelope budgeting system to a Results-Based Budgeting model. A performance-oriented budgeting framework and ongoing tax reforms will drive efficiency, accountability, and measurable outcomes.

It is time our budgeting process aligns with national priorities and delivers tangible impact,” he added.
Musa reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to working collaboratively with all economic stakeholders, including the CBN and Federal Ministry of Finance, to ensure Nigeria adopts globally accepted best practices to secure sustainable economic growth and development.
