Group urges governors to form joint task forces against kidnappers

A civil society group, Congress for Rights of Yoruba Nationalities (CROYN) yesterday expressed concern over the sudden upsurge in kidnappings in the South-West.

The group decried the killing of two traditional rulers on Monday as well as the kidnapping of some students in the state on Sunday, describing the killing of the kings as sacrilegious and horrible.

In a statement by its National President, Abiodun Fanoro, the group said the worrisome dimension kidnapping was assuming in the region was a test of the will of leaders, especially the governors, the Oodua People’s Congress, the Aare Onakankanfo of Yoruba land, Chief Gani Adams, the Yoruba nationalist agitator, Chief Adeyemi (Igboho) and the well-known capacity of the Yoruba people to unite against evil and triumph over it.

The group called for the immediate formation of what it called the Anti-kidnapping Joint Task Force, made up of the police, military, Amotekun security outfit, association of local hunters, and the forest guard, to be deployed in strategic locations and some key towns and villages across the South-West.

It challenged the governors and other stakeholders in the region to without delay rise up to this situation and defeat these invaders.
