The Edo Exporters Cluster (EEC) on Friday decried the destruction of its members’ bee hives by unknown persons.
The Coordinator of EEC, Mrs. Rhone Peters, condemned the destruction in an interview with our correspondent in Benin on Friday.
Peters said that the destruction was making EEC members lose millions of Naira invested in the business.
“Our clusters for beehives are in different locations in the state.
“Stealing of the honey and destruction of the hives is a big challenge to bee farming in the state.
“This is worrisome because the beehives cost a lot of money and they are people’s investment,” she said.
The coordinator said that bee farming was a lucrative business that could be exploited for export purposes.
“Bee farmers can make money from bee wax, bee sting, and production of honey for exportation.
“Bee farmers make money by using bee sting to cure arthritis and body pain.

“A person can start small bee farming with 10 hives for about N250,000 and start reaping the benefit after nine months,” she said.
She added that the cluster was into capacity building for people willing to invest in bee farming for export purposes.
