AFCON Qualifiers: Leave Osimhem out of Benin, Lesotho matches, Disu tells Rohr

As Nigeria prepares for the last phase of the African Nations Cup qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho, ex-international, Tajudeen Disu has advised the Super Eagles helmsman Gernot Rohr to exclude Napoli striker Victor Osimhen from the list of the invited players for the double headers.

Disu reasoned that Osimhen has not really settled in properly since he returned from injury and Covid 19 attack before the last incident where he sustained a head injury in Napoli’s 4-2 loss at Atlanta recently.

Gernot Rohr speaks on players’ status

Recall that he was on assignment for Nigeria late last year where he sustained shoulder injury that kept him out for some months and as such Rohr should give him breathing space to fully recover and settle down to play for the club that had invested so much on him.

“I don’t think Osimhen’s absence will affect the team as such because there are other strikers that are also doing well in their respective clubs now. This will also serve as a lesson to us that you do not build a team around a particular player. In case such a player sustains an injury then there will be problems in the team”, he disclosed.

The former defunct Abiola Babes defence stalwart also disagreed with the German tactician that there are no good home-based players that could make the Super Eagles team.

“I do not agree with Rohr that there are no local players good enough to be part of the current Super Eagles. During our own time the home-based players dominated the senior national team. Rohr should strive to build an enduring senior national team that all of us will be proud of”, he added.
