Ijaw group condemns Asari Dokubo over comments on Wike

Niger Delta activist, Asari Dokubo has come under attack over his recent negative comments targeted at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Dokubo was slammed by Rivers State stakeholders, under the Rivers Restoration Movement in a statement by the group’s Director-General Johnson Georgewill.

The group disassociated Dokubo’s outburst from the Ijaw community, stressing that claims by the activist are false and filled with outright lies.

Reacting to Dokubo’s attack on President Bola Tinubu and the Yoruba people, the stakeholders said the president and Governor Siminialayi Fubara enjoyed the goodwill of majority of Ijaw leaders during the 2023 elections.

The group noted that 90 percent of Ijaw members in the Rivers State Assembly back Wike, contrasting this with Dokubo’s alleged inability to deliver votes for Tinubu in his unit.

Additionally, they dismissed Dokubo’s threats about the Ijaw aligning with northern political interests for the 2027 presidential election as inconsequential.

The group expressed amazement at Dokubo’s claim of spending two million dollars to support the president, considering his lack of impact in the elections.

Overall, the statement underscores the stakeholders’ unity and support for Wike, asserting that Dokubo’s comments do not reflect the sentiments of the broader Ijaw leadership.
