The Federal Government (FG), has joined the Catholic faithful across the globe, in their solemn moment and deep grief, as they mourn the passing of a retired Catholic pontiff, His Holiness, Benedict XVI, Pope Emeritus, who passed on 31st December 2022.
The Nigerian State, said, the late Supreme Pontiff Emeritus was a great scholar and a renowned theologian, who contributed greatly to advancing the Catholic faith.
In a statement signed by Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Francisca Omayuli, on Tuesday, the Nigerian Government said, the Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, was greatly admired for his humility, nobility, modesty, and courage.
According to the statement, “The Federal Government of Nigeria commiserates with The Holy See and the global Catholic community on the passing of His Holiness Benedict XVI, Pope Emeritus, on Saturday, 31st December, 2022. May his soul rest in peace”.
