The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has apologised to his congregation for misleading them.
A video had trended in April where Adeboye told the pastors in the congregation that he had an instruction for them.
He asked that they return to their congregations and tell them, “Anyone who does not pay his/her tithe is not going to heaven, full stop.”
The statement had generated controversy some years ago when he made it. Nigerians on social media didn’t take kindly to it and tackled the pastor and church.
However, in another video, the pastor said he made a mistake in his first claim, stating that his statement wasn’t Biblical.
“I’m apologising for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you won’t make it to heaven’. I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is, ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God’.”
