A lady simply identified as Mary Olatayo has been arrested by the Ogun state police command for allegedly selling her 3-weeks old baby for six hundred thousand naira (600,000).
Mary was arrested following complaints by the father of the child at the Mowe divisional headquarters.
According to him, the suspect and himself had been dating for sometime, after which Mary got pregnant and he rented an apartment where she stayed till she gave birth.
He further disclosed that he became worried after Mary went missing three weeks after her delivery which led to his complaint, but she was later found in a hotel with a man without the baby in sight.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the spokesperson of the Ogun state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said the DPO of the Mowe divisional headquarters directed detectives to the scenes where the suspect was arrested.

Upon interrogation, Mary confessed to confessed to selling the baby at the rate of 600,000 thousand naira, adding that she was assisted by a friend identified as Chioma Esther Ogbonnawho who led her to the buyer in Anambra state.
She further stated that they both shared the reward from the sales of the baby equally amongst themselves.
Oyeyemi said “Mary Olatayo a native of Omu- aran in Kwara state is a call girl, who saw the baby as a disturbance to her business hence she decided to do away with the baby.
“Fortunately for her, she has an accomplice in Chioma a native of Imo state who quickly contacted the buyer in Anambra state.”
The police spokesperson however stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the anti-human trafficking and child labor unit, adding that all efforts are being made to ensure the baby is found.
