2027: VP Shettima, Speaker Abbas rally support for Tinubu’s re-election

By David Lawani, Abuja

Vice President Kashim Shettima and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas on Thursday intensified support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, declaring that the administration’s economic reforms had stabilised the country and positioned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for another electoral victory.

Speaking during the submission of Tinubu’s nomination and expression of interest forms under the APC platform, Shettima said the President inherited a fragile economy marked by weak foreign reserves and deep fiscal challenges, but chose to implement bold reforms rather than “resort to blame games or propaganda.”

“He has sailed this ship through troubling waters with courage, taking difficult but necessary decisions to stabilise the economy, restore confidence and prepare Nigeria for a more sustainable future,” the Vice President stated.

According to him, the Renewed Hope Agenda had begun yielding positive socio-economic outcomes despite initial hardships triggered by key policy decisions.

“We have crossed the river. We are out of the dark tunnel. Nigeria is now on a path to recovery and growth,” Shettima declared, while urging Nigerians across political, religious and social divides to support Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Also speaking, Abbas expressed confidence that Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 was “guaranteed,” citing what he described as the administration’s achievements across critical sectors within three years in office.

“I have no iota of doubt that if there is one single person whose election is guaranteed in this country today, it is Mr President, because he has done so much for Nigerians,” the Speaker said.

Abbas noted that Tinubu demonstrated unusual decisiveness from the onset of his administration, unlike many first-time leaders who spend years trying to understand governance before taking major decisions.

“The way Mr President has led this country gives the impression that he had been President before. From day one, he was bold and courageous in confronting the nation’s economic problems,” he added.

The Speaker further said the administration’s policies had strengthened public confidence in the APC and attracted more political stakeholders into the ruling party, including some former critics of the government.

He expressed optimism that the growing political support around Tinubu signalled “a very good story” ahead of the 2027 general election for both the President and the APC.
