Benin monarch counsels Nigerian lawmakers against thuggery

The Being monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, has kicked against thuggery deployed by some Nigerian lawmakers and politicians in settling political scores.
Oba Ewuare II, stated members of Edo State house of Assembly paid him a courtesy visit at his palace at the Weekend in Benin City.
He advised the lawmaker to embrace peaceful means of resolving conflicts instead of resorting to self help.
“I am not happy with the way lawmakers throw chairs and fight confu or Karat. Sometimes, one shivers down the spine that you will begin to ask what kind of laws they make.
“You should not entertain any Bill that will militate against the traditional structure of Edo State…We are watching 24 hours”,
the monarch advised.
The traditional ruler, demanded implementation of the Private Property Protection Laws in Edo State.
Oba Ewuare II also thanked the legislators and the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for the enactment of the law and giving legal backing to his proclamation on matters connected therein.
Earlier in a remark, the Speaker of Edo State house of Assembly, Mr. Marcus Onobun, eulogized Oba Ewuare II and recalled his support towards the peaceful coexistence of Edo people at home and diaspora.
He also congratulated the traditional ruler on the successful Igue festival and promised to always consult the palace towards the good governance of the State.
According to him, “there are a lot of other things and areas we need to look into based in the reality on ground to strengthen the implementation of the laws”.
Recall that the Edo State Property Protection Law, came into force on 12th day of April 2017. The historic piece of legislation, prohibits forceful takeover of property and other related matters by members of the defunct Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Edo State.
