The Nigeria Labor Congress on Tuesday celebrated the late Pascal Bafyau, one-time president of the NLC.
Extolling the leadership qualities of the Late Labor leader, Ayuba Wabba, NLC President in his welcome address at the 10 the anniversary lecture in honor of former NLC President, Pascal Bafyau, Wabba said Bafyau was instrumental in the acquisition of a plot in a choice location for their secretariat which is today Labor House, named after him.

The design, up to the realization of the structure, he said was all attributed to Pascal Bafyau.
Wabba also said that the late labor leader laid the foundation for the formation of the Labour Party and advocated for workers’ participation in politics. Saying that their party, the LP has become a house whole name and the much talked about party in Nigeria today.

The NLC President in his address urged workers to get involved in partisan politics as the struggle is better from within

He stated: “ Strikes and protests alone will not change things in Nigeria. We must go into politics to fight from within.”

Talking about their party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Peter Obi, he said there was much similarity between Obi and Bafyau.

That just like Obi, Bafyau gave Congress a befitting edifice, yet he had no house of his own in Abuja.

e also noted that the LP was not for the highest bidder and that the LP could not be linked with the scandal associated with other parties on unethical spending and bribery during their primaries.

He warned that Labour is involved, through the LP and that the 2023 elections must be free, fair and credible as that is the least Nigerians expect.

He urged INEC to execute the new electoral law to the latter with electronic transmission of results as that is the only way to get credible leadership, elected by the people.

Among the paper presenters were Sen. Jonathan Zwingina, former Senate Deputy Leader, Comrade Isa Aremu and Dr. Peter Ezo – Esson, former NLC General Secretary.

Meanwhile, NLC President Ayuba Wabba during his welcome address confirmed that the NLC and INEC on Monday signed Memorandum of Understanding, MoU to officially declare the NLC as owner of the Labour Party, LP.
