Bayelsa deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo is dead

Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo has died on Thursday at the age of 60.

According to reports, he collapsed while at work and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa

Ewhrudjakpo was a seasoned Nigerian politician and public servant. Born on September 5, 1965, in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, he held multiple academic qualifications, including degrees in secretarial administration, business administration and law, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2009.

He also earned a PhD in Human Rights and Labour Law.

Before serving as deputy governor, Ewhrudjakpo was elected to represent Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly, a position he held from June 2019 until February 2020.

He became deputy governor on February 14, 2020, serving under Governor Douye Diri.

During his tenure, he was actively involved in promoting government initiatives across sectors such as agriculture, health and professional development.

The deceased was recognized for supporting women engineers with an APMAN of the Year award from the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria.
