Enugu Govt. swears in 2 electoral commissioners

Enugu State has sworn in Chief Anthony Ugwunnadi and Mr George Ani as new members of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC).
Mr Victor Emeribe, Solicitor-General, Enugu State, and Permanent Secretary Ministry Justice, administered the oath of office on the two new members in Enugu on Thursday.
Speaking after the swearing in, the Enugu State Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecelia Ezeilo, said that there was a need for a viable, independent and transparent electoral body in democratic system of government.
She noted that a vacuum in the membership of ENSIEC was created as a result of death and effluxion of time.
Ezeilo noted that the two new members were appointed to fill in the vacuum.
She said that absence of ENSIEC could cause Enugu state to suffer in the hands of tyrants.
”It is against this backdrop that State Independent Electoral Commission was established to enshrine the principles of transparency and accountability in our electoral system.
”ENSIEC over the years has proved worthy of the mandate given to it by the state government in conduct of Local Government elections.
”Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has on this day, appointed two additional members of high repute and integrity to join the commission,” she said.

According to Ezeilo, it is hoped that Enugu state will benefit from your wealth of knowledge to further sail the ship of our electoral system.
”This is in terms of taking the electoral system to a place of enviable height, in terms of conducting credible and transparent Local Government elections in the state.
In his vote of thanks, one of the new members, Chief Ugwunnadi, thanked the state government for the posts.
He promised that his colleague and he would do their best in the discharge of their duty to the populace.
”I hereby, with my colleague, guaranteed credible election for the state and ensure an election the populace will be proud of,” Ugwunnadi said.
