
An unidentified reckless driver yesterday killed seven persons, including a pregnant woman, during the Bikers’ carnival, an integral event of the Carnival Calabar 2022.
No fewer than 20 others were injured and in critical condition.
An eyewitness told ThisNigeria that at least 30 persons were affected by the tragedy as many have been rushed to the General Hospital along Mary Slessor Avenue, while others were taken to Navy Reference Hospital on the Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar.
Although what led to the accident as of the time of filing this report are still sketchy, several eyewitnesses disclosed that a Toyota Camry lost control and rammed into a crowd of onlookers
The Camry with registration number Cross River ‘DUK 505 PE’ according to multiple sources, was not part of those on the usual procession.
Confirming the tragic incident, FRSC Sector Commander in Cross River, Mikano Hassan, said seven persons were killed.

“It is true, there was an incident along Mary Slessor opposite the Mosque at Bogobiri. Seven persons were killed and several others injured,” he said.
When ThisNigeria visited the scene of the accident, the dead bodies have been evacuated while those who died on the spot were taken to the morgue with mutilated bodies.
Security agencies including Nigerian Army, Police, and Nigeria Security, and Civil Defence Corps, among others, were at the scene to maintain calm.
