Resuscitate shuttle buses for students, stakeholders beg Akeredolu

Parents and stakeholders in education sector in Ondo state have reminded the state government on the need to revisit the use of free shuttle buses for pupils and students in Ondo state public schools.

Findings revealed that the buses were parked at Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in Agbaluku-Arigidi and the local government secretariat, Okeagbe for almost a year ago.

The vehicles were not working and this would affected many things on the buses. .
One of the parents, Mr Ojo Ibrahim urged government to consider the plight of indigent pupils,stressing that government can even allow parents to be paying token for the maintenance of the buses instead of making them to rot away.

A serving teacher from Ikare-Akoko who did not want his name mentioned said the free shuttle programme which stopped abruptly has affected punctuality of pupils in schools while those working with buse are now unemployed.

A mechanic,Mr Dauda Tayo urged government to either service the buses or auction as many component parts will be become bad and will not function well due to long abandonment of the vehicles.

It would be recalled that Mimiko’s administration introduced the free shuttle buses programme for public primary and secondary schools.

The present government inherited and continued with the programme until the economy and allocation from the Federal government dropped.
