Ohanaeze warns Obi against 2027 NDC presidential bid

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, to reconsider any plan to contest the 2027 presidential election under the proposed National Democratic Congress (NDC), declaring that the platform cannot deliver an Igbo presidency.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation described the NDC as a regional political platform allegedly driven by Ijaw interests and lacking the national structure needed to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.

The position was contained in a statement signed by the Deputy President General of Ohanaeze, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and the National Spokesman, Chief Thompson Ohia.

According to the group, “the attainment of an Igbo Presidency under the NDC is not feasible,” insisting that only a nationally accepted political platform with broad support across the country can produce Nigeria’s President.

Ohanaeze alleged that the party is being influenced by the political interests of former Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, warning that a regional platform cannot survive Nigeria’s complex electoral environment.

The organisation warned that another failed presidential bid could weaken the Southeast’s political influence and affect ongoing development efforts in the region.

It also referenced the recent position of former Southeast governors, who reportedly commended the infrastructural projects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and backed his re-election bid.

Ohanaeze therefore called on Obi to withdraw from the 2027 race and support Tinubu’s second-term ambition in the interest of the Southeast.
