People must not close their eyes to injustice, Pope Francis pleaded in his Epiphany message on Thursday.
“There are still rulers in society who sow death and kill innocent people,” the 85-year-old preached at the Epiphany Mass in St Peter’s Basilica, criticizing the indifference exhibited by many in society.
The head of the Catholic Church also urged people to have a courageous faith and not fall into comfort.
“We are fixated on our needs, on what to eat and what to wear, and let the desire for what goes beyond evaporate,’’ he said.

Epiphany, from the Greek word for `manifestation’ or `appearance,’ is when the Catholic Church celebrates the revelation of Jesus Christ as God incarnate.
On this occasion, the faithful remember the stargazers from the East who came to visit Jesus Christ in the manger, as recorded in the Bible.
