Israeli Foreign Minister to pay first visit to UAE normalisation deal

New Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from June 29 to June 30, in the first official visit by a senior Israeli official to the Gulf Arab country.

Lapid’s office on Monday said that during his visit, he will inaugurate the Israeli embassy in Abu Dhabi the UAE’s capital, and the consulate in Dubai.

“The fruits of ties between Israel and the UAE will be enjoyed not only by the citizens of the two countries but also by the entire Middle East,’’ according to his office.

Lapid, the centrist leader of the Yesh Atid party, was the driving force behind the forming of Israel’s new cross-partisan coalition government.

Israel and the UAE signed a U.S. brokered normalization agreement in Sept. 2020.
