Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore has accused the supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of calling for the swift prosecution of Nigerian singer, Seun Kuti for assaulting a policeman.
ThisNigeria reports that Seun was captured on video, slapping a police officer on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
The singer, defending his action, alleged that the policeman tried to kill him and his family.
Reacting to the incident, The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba ordered the immediate arrest of Seun Kuti and also a full investigation into the incident.
Also reacting, Sowore claimed that most of the calls for Seun’s prosecution were from the supporters of Peter Obi because the singer did not support the presidential candidate during the 2023 elections.
He took to Twitter and wrote: “The @PoliceNG today declared wanted @seunkuti a scion of late Afrobeat king, #FelaAnikulapoKuti over an altercation between a police contingent that rammed into him and his family on the 3rd Mainland bridge in Lagos earlier today.

“I am aware that @seunkuti and his attorneys have agreed to help the @policeng in an effort to unravel circumstances that led to the altercations.
“It must be noted that that while these conversations are ongoing for a full cooperation with the police, officers of the @PoliceNG including the Inspector General of police must not engage in extra judicial action(s) like they are known for in settling disputes.
Seun Kuti has agreed to cooperate fully with @policeng as soon as possible. There is nothing wrong if you admit that you want @realseunkuti summarily executed because he did not support @peterobi for President, during the 2023 presidential election. even the @PoliceNG agreed to investigate what led to the altercation between @policeng & @realseunkuti on 3rd Mainland bridge earlier today.
