Six things to know about Edo’s new deputy governor

Omobayo Marvelous Godwins has been appointed to replace the impeached Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu.
THISNIGERIA reported that Shaibu, who has been at loggerheads with his former boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki, was impeached early Monday.
The duo have been at each other’s throats in recent months over Shaibu’s plans to contest the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary.
Last week, the Edo House of Assembly started the impeachment proceedings against Shaibu. Twenty-one of the 24 lawmakers signed a petition to that effect.
He was probed on allegations of perjury and leaking of government secrets.
After being found guilty, Shaibu was removed from office by members of the Edo State House of Assembly after the conclusion of a panel instituted by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa.
