The controversy trailing the dethronement of the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, continued yesterday as a Federal High Court in Kano presided over by Justice S.A Amobeda, issued an order for the eviction of the new Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, from the Kofar Kudu Palace.
The court also reinforced the authority of Ado Bayero as the 15th Emir of Kano.
Shortly after the Federal High Court’s order, a Kano State High Court, presided by Justice Amina Aliyu, restrained the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the military from evicting the reinstated 16th Emir of Kano, Sanusi II.
It was learnt that police officers and soldiers had sealed off access to the street leading to the Nasarawa Palace, where the dethroned Emir, Ado Bayero, was currently residing.
The area, it was gathered, was heavily guarded, with all surrounding streets blocked.
Justice Amobeda stated, “An order of interim injunction restraining the respondents from inviting, arresting, detaining, threatening, intimidating, harassing the Applicant, or infringing on his rights is hereby granted,” stated.
He added, “This order ensures that Emir Aminu Bayero enjoys all rights and privileges accrued to him by his position.”
These conflicting orders have led to significant confusion regarding the rightful authority and protection of the emirs in Kano.
Meanwhile, in that of the state high court, the case filed by Bashir Yusuf Muhammad has the emir alongside the four kingmakers of Kano: Madakin Kano Yusuf Nabahani; Makaman Kano Ibrahim Sarki Abdullahi; Sarkin Bai Mansur Adnan and Sarkin Dawaki Maituta Bello Tuta as applicants.
While granting the order, Justice Aliyu also restrained the security agencies from arresting or harassing the emir and his kingmakers.
