Two arraigned for alleged robbery

Two men, Merite Iwobi, 37, and Julius Adie, 36, who allegedly robbed two men of their cars, valued at N5.5 million, were on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The police arraigned the duo, who reside in Ajah, Lagos, on a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery.

The Prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that the duo committed the offenses on Oct. 3 at Festac Town on the Lagos Mainland.

He said the accused robbed Mr. Pius Godwin and Isaac Enebe of their cars.

“The defendants attacked the complainants with dangerous weapons and snatched their cars.

“They robbed Godwin of a Toyota Corolla, valued at N3 million, and robbed Enebe of his Toyota saloon car worth N2.5million.

“The complainants reported the robbery and the defendants were eventually arrested,” the prosecutor said.

The alleged offenses, according to the prosecutor, violate Sections 297 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Section 297 prescribes 21 years jail term for robbery.

The defendants’ pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs. S.K. Matepo, released them on bail of N2 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.

She said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate fixed the case for Jan. 24, 2022, for hearing.
