Following the killings of 23 people in Sokoto on Monday President Muhammadu Buhari has sent Babagana Monguno, National Security Adviser, and Yusuf Bichi, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to Sokoto and Katsina.
According to Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman on Friday he said Buhari is expecting a situation report and recommendations from the team which also has Usman Alkali Baba, inspector-general of police (IGP), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and Samuel Adebayo, chief of defence intelligence,
Garba Shehu said: “President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday dispatched a high-level delegation, made up of the heads of the nation’s intelligence and security services to Sokoto and Katsina States in response to the recent spike in bandit activities,”
He also said that “The president is expecting an immediate situation report and recommendations on actions to follow to effectively deal with the worrying situation.
“This is coming barely 24 after the president inaugurated sophisticated Navy Ships, Patrol Boats, and a helicopter at the Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island in Lagos to boost security at the maritime borders.”
The President had ab initio expressed sadness over the gruesome attacks on innocent travellers in Sokoto saying “I am very distressed at the manner of death visited on these hapless citizens who were undertaking a legitimate journey to another part of the country.

“It shows that the evil this administration is confronting is one that requires the support and involvement of all Nigerians.
“I extend deep condolences to the families of the victims as I assure that the security agencies will continue to give their all to bring to an end the operations of these despicable people.”
Recalled that bandits were said to have attacked a 42-seater bus travelling to Kaduna on Monday and 23 people lost their lives as a result of the attack.
The vehicle conveying the travellers was also burnt from the flames started by gunshots.
Six were said to have been injured and victims were receiving treatment at a hospital.
