An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of four men for allegedly robbing a man of his valuables totalling N187, 000.
The defendants are Ramoni Ganiyu, 32; Oriyomi Olushola, 21; Emmanuel John, 22, and Pelumi Akinifesi, 22.
Magistrate Mrs I.O. Alejo, who did not take the defendants’ plea, ordered that they should be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
Alejo, however, directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
She adjourned the case until Feb. 16.
The police charged the defendants with conspiracy, belonging to an unlawful society, armed with dangerous weapons and robbery.
The prosecution counsel, Sgt. Olasunkanmi Adejumola told the court that the defendants and others still at large committed the offences in December 2021 at Shomolu, Lagos State.
He said the defendants, who belonged to an unlawful society known as ‘Eiye’ confraternity, armed with dangerous weapons, robbed Mr Tosin Adeshina of his property.
“The defendants accosted the complainant with cutlasses, iron rods, bottles and other offensive weapons.
“They robbed him of his iPhone valued at N85,000, a wristwatch of N31,000 and cash of N71,000, totalling N187,000.
“The complainant raised alarm after being robbed, people pursued them and the defendants were arrested while others escaped with the stolen property,” the prosecutor said.
