A building collapse at the Eke Amawbia Market in Awka, Anambra State has left many dead.
The tragic incident was reported at about 12:00 noon yesterday, causing panic in the area.
An eyewitness report said a two-storey shop building suddenly crumbled, burying numerous vegetable traders beneath the debris.
As of press time, only one person had been rescued and rushed to the Amawbia Maternity Home for urgent medical attention.
Many more, however, are still believed to be trapped inside the wreckage.
By noon yesterday, a large contingent of police officers had arrived at the scene to coordinate rescue efforts and maintain order.
