Indiscriminate bush burning worries Ondo farmers

Experiencing serious dry season period and indiscriminate bush burning in Ondo state particularly in Akoko axis of the North District, stakeholders especially farmers have expressed concern on incessant burning of bushes for animals.

The Chairman, Akoko north East local government chapter of the Farmers Congress, Elder Joseph Oluduro lamented the annual colossal amount of money,economic crops and properties being destroyed by inferno.

The farmer said government must go for jingles on Radio and television to discourage incessant bush burning by unscrupulous elements in the society.

Oluduro listed cocoa,kolabut,cashew,palm tree among those crops affected yearly during dry season.
Another cocoa farmer,Alhaji Abdulrasak Aliu said a lot of revenue are being lost to fire as a result of indiscriminate bush burning.

Aliu counseled farmers to always clear bushes around their farms during dry season while there is need to sink wells in their farms for water in case of fire incidents.

An agricultural extension officer in the state, Mukaila Ayodele during his meeting with farmers,urged them to clear their sourounding and make sure fire is put off while leaving the farm.

Ayodele said government is frowned at indiscriminate bush burning which is anti economic growth.
