Troops kill over 80 terrorists in two weeks

The Military High Command, Thursday said, troops across all theatres of operations killed more than 80 terrorists in two weeks, during military operations.

It also, revealed that troops picked up 62 criminals, including 10 terrorist logistics suppliers, collaborators and gunrunners.

The military said that its operations in the southeast led to the killing of no fewer than 25 members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in different locations.

The Defence Headquarters added that 18 Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province terrorists, were killed in the northeast while 16 bandits were killed in the northwest.

This, it said is in addition to the scores of terrorists and their commanders killed in an airstrike on terrorist enclaves and hideouts.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major Gen Musa Danmadami made this disclosure during a press briefing in Abuja.

He further disclosed that no fewer than 250 Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province terrorists and their families surrendered to the troops in Northeast theatre.

In one of the operations, troops killed 13 terrorists, arrested 10 and rescued 41 civilians.

“A total of 250 Boko Haram Terrorist/Islamic State of West Africa Province members and their families comprises of 43 adult males, 80 adult females and 121 children surrendered to the troops at different locations within the theatre,” he said.

Gen. Danmadami said that all recovered items, and arrested Boko Harm terrorists were handed over to the appropriate authority for further action while the surrendered terrorists with their family members and rescued civilians are being profiled for further action.

He said, “Military operations in the North East Zone have been aggressively sustained against the activities of terrorist elements’ within the zone aimed at restoring peace, security and creating an enabling environment for law and order to thrive. Accordingly, troops of operation HADIN KAI conducted operational activities in villages and communities within and around Kaga, Damboa, Bama, Ngazai and Gwoza Local Government Areas of Borno State, which resulted in significant achievement. Notable, Between 4 and 15 November 2022, troops ambushed Boko Haram Terrorists along road Darel Jamel-Kirawa and Awulari village in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State”.

He further noted that during the encounter, troops neutralized 5 of the terrorists while others fled with gun shot wounds.

He added that no fewer than 15 million naira cash were also recovered from terrorists logistics suppliers within the period under review.

He said that the sum of Eight Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Nine Thousand, Five Hundred and Ten Naira (N8,259,510.00) only, were recovered from a Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists collaborator in Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area of Borno State.

He concluded that troops also arrested a suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province collaborator at Maire in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State with the sum of N5,000,000.00 in his possession, amongst several others.
