
27 members of the Rivers State Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)
According to reports, the decision was made by the lawmakers on Monday morning.
It was gathered that the 27 lawmakers are loyal to the assembly speaker, Martin Amaewhule, who has has been embroiled in a leadership tussle with another member, Edison Ehie.
ThisNigeria reports that the defection may not be unconnected to the rift between the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Amaewhule is believed to be loyal to Wike while Ehie is said to be a strong supporter of Governor Fubara.
Recall that a part of Rivers Assembly Complex was set on fire by unknown persons after it was alleged that the lawmakers were planning to impeach the governor.
