I buy children for N50k each, Reverend sister confesses in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a Reverend sister simply identified as Maureen Wechinwu for alleged child trafficking.

The suspect, (44) was found with 15 abducted children before she was arrested by the police at Omuigwe Abuja Phase II, Aluu, in Ikwerre Local Government area.

Confessing to her crime at the police headquarters in the state, Wechinwu said she used to be a Reverend Sister. I trained in a foreign congregation in England.

She said “Some of the children are mad people’s children and the others are brought to me by one Mr. Victor. Sometimes he comes with them in twos. One Miss Alice brought two to me. Alice said since I am a beginner that I should take them.

“Sometimes when Victor brings children, he will be demanding money. But due to the pressure on me sometimes I give N50,000, N60,000, and N100,000,” she said.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, said the children that were rescued from the suspect were aged between seven and nine.

He further stated that investigations have shown that the children were picked from different parts of the South-South states and were being sold to different buyers, adding that the children revealed that they were been tortured when they were in captivity.
